Protests against FPOE in Austria are continuing

Yesterday the protests in Vienna against the participation of the extreme right freedom party (FPOE) already started in the morning. The politicians of the peoples party (OEVP) and the FPOE where faced with spontaneous protests all the day. At 5 p.m. 3 000 protestors gathered in front of the Headquarter of the OEVP. They later went on to the office of the federal president, where FPOE, OEVP and the federal president finalized the coalition deal. The crowd was very loud and also even angrier than the day before. Afterwards the march went on to the HQ of the FPOE, where the streets where blocked by the police like before.

Later the protestors went on through the city for some hours, so fast and with spontaneous changes of the direction that the police sometimes even lost the contact to the demonstration. At 10 p.m. the march arrived at the parliament, still 500 protestors left. Then they chose to enter the Burgtheater (the most famous theater here in Austria) to stop the play and invite the audience to join the protests. Surprisingly some people in the audience reacted with standing ovations. The protestors went on, occupied a hotel for a short time and arrived at the FPOE-HQ again at 12 p.m. where they ended their march. Unfortunately at this point 1 protestor was arrested.

The passer-bys again reacted very friendly to the protestors. The protests are now also gaining more attention in the media.

On the negative side we have to correct ourselves. Other than stated before some of the names of the occupiers of the OEVP-HQ were noted by the police and so they will be sued by the OEVP.

Yesterday evening OEVP and FPOE reached a final agreement with the federal president and so the leader of the OEVP, Wolfgang Schuessel, was ordered to form a government. Today (Friday) the federal president of Austria, Thomas Klestil, will put them into duty. The more necessary it will be to show them from the beginning of their reign, that the resistance - in Austria and also intenational - will go on.

To give them a really bad start there will be a manifestation in front of the office of the federal president today at 11 a.m. On Saturday there will be another march organised by human rights organizations.

Keep on fighting!
